Why do people Complain?
A friend of mine asked me a question recently: Why do people complain so much?
So, what is complaining? and why?
COMPLAIN:
Verb — complain (complains, complaining, complained)
To EXPRESS FEELINGS of PAIN, DISSATISFACTION, or RESENTMENT.
To make a FORMAL ACCUSATION or bring a FORMAL CHARGE.
TL;dr: Because people think everything has to be perfect. But reality doesn’t work that way.
Let’s consider a word ‘dissatisfaction’. When do we feel dissatisfied?
Of course, whenever we expect something to happen and instead of that happening, something else happens.
To be more precise, something opposite or least expected or unexpected happens, and we feel dissatisfied.
But the act of complaining is NOT completely emerged by dissatisfaction alone. If you look around, on the everyday basis, everybody has their own expectations. Probably MOST of them do not reach those expectations but I am sure, everyone doesn’t complain.
So, what’s the cause or source of the act of complaining, then?
Well, to understand that, we need to look at it in the contextual level instead of just dictionary level. In context, it all comes down to: A person talking about his/her dissatisfaction. But that’s not all. A person might be expressing dissatisfaction to get help. That’s a good act and not considered as complaining. But when a person complains, it is often filled with helplessness. It is often filled with no intention solving dissatisfaction or no intention of getting over it. Even though they know what’s right, logically, their mindset doesn’t allow them to or make it hard for them to accept it. That’s normal until it’s not something they should live with their entire life. It’s not normal if it stays with you for far too long. That type of dissatisfaction become part of your thoughts and slowly become part of your identity, dissatisfactions becoming part of you. That’s definitely not normal.
Problem is, most people do not realize this and that’s because, these transitions are so subtle, it’s very very hard to witness. But when years pass and you look back, you can definitely see a huge transition in how a person used to be and how they turned out. People say that time can heal everything but while healing, there will be those peak moments of dissatisfaction or pain that’s more than ever before. But believe that, those moments pass and TIME definitely heals you.
What to do next.
